Britax Safefix Plus Group 1 ISOfix Car Seat
I was given this seat to test by Mother and Baby and at first glance my initial reaction was fear!! Its a monster of a seat and its not to be carried by the faint hearted. Its Big, heavy and bulky but its weight accounts for the amazing safety system that it has got going on. The Safefix can be installed with Isofix or using the cars 3 point seatbelt. It also has an extra foot prop to give extra stability to the seat. There's a huge amount of side impact protection and the head cushioning would give a formula 1 seat a run for its money. The seat is so easy to install it takes a matter of minutes to get it locked in safely and I was completely confident that my child was safe in this chair. Even more so after using the clicking system on the harness which sounds when it is pulled tight enough to ensure optimum safety.
My little girl who is 1 fits in the seat well, she looks very comfortable and her head is always supported when she sleeps because of the lovely cushioning. It reclines to a good angle meaning I know not only is she safe but she is also comfortable. However, my eldest girl who is 3 and a half and average size doesn't really fit in the chair- even though it is supposed to last until age 4. Her head seems to be squashed in the cushioning and she is crushed by the side impact protection. This is really a very small moan though as she isn't far off the age limit and it wouldn't stop me recommending the chair...unless you have a larger than average child that is.
Another drawback is the material. It is a breathable textile with small holes that gives a sort of waffle appearance. It does not wear well and I have noticed that it snags and pulls and has started to bobble. When the baby drops food it becomes stuck in these little holes and can only be removed by a good wash in the machine. Washing the cover is a doddle, it is removed in one swift manoeuvre and put back on again just as easily...and us mums know how important being able to wash the cover is. I put the cover on a quick 30 degree wash and let it dry on the line. The cover looked as good as new and apart from the bobbling which I have already mentioned it has washed extremely well and kept its shape.
The main thing to consider when buying this chair is what age is your child and how big is your child? I wouldn't personally buy this chair for a 2 or 3 year old as I don't think they would get enough use out of it to warrant the hefty price tag of £200. I also probably wouldn't choose this chair if I knew I had to move it between cars a lot as it is really very heavy! Having said this we have decided to keep the Britax Safefix plus for our 1 year old. When it comes to safety I haven't come across a chair that can beat this and that is the most important thing in my opinion.
Silvercross POP
Silvercross POP stroller. £84.99-£110
I bought this stroller as my toddler was getting too heavy for my big pram, i felt like i was pushing a tank so wanted something light and easy. The silvercross POP ticked all the boxes. It reclines to a nearly horizontal position with one easy manoeuvre, it then sits up by pulling on another lever. Its really easy to use, no buckles to unclip or ties to undo.
The main concern of any mummy is shopping! The silvercross Pop has a decent size basket and i could fit a fair bit of retail therapy in it, it also has little hooks to hang some bags on if you need to. There is also a clip on cup holder for that cheeky trip to Starbucks.
My main concern is the comfort of my daughter. This buggy has an adjustable leg rest, a wide harness so no chaffing and a large hood which stops any drafts and drizzles without the need for a cumbersome rain cover. There is a rain cover included however but to be honest I always find them a bit of a faff to put on and I haven’t really used it much.
Steering and handling is great, the pushchair is quite tall so great for ladies with a bit of extra height and still easy to push for us little ones. Its also really easy to fold down, so easy in fact you can do it with one hand. Once folded there is a convenient carry handle and the buggy is lightweight at 7.2kgs.
The only downside to the buggy I felt was the hood comes off a little to easy for my liking and like most other pushchairs it has a maximum weight limit of 15kgs. You can use it from birth but I would want to put an extra head hugger in it for a little bit more support.
Overall a great buggy that is well worth the money and didn’t disappoint. I would definitely recommend it.
ELC HAPPYLAND WINDMILL FARM
My Daughter had this given to her for her 1st birthday and was delighted with it when opening the packaging. It must be the prettiest toy I’ve ever seen! Even the cows are pretty! We already have the Happyland fairy boot and this is a very similar colour scheme and style…we love the lilacs and pinks. It is well made, chunky and sturdy for little destructive hands and there are no sharp edges like some plastic toy seem to have. I particularly like the fact that all children like this toy regardless of age. We have had kids ranging from 1-8 playing with it so im betting on it lasting a long time in our house. It promotes use of fine motor skills and hand to eye coordination using the little figures and slotting the furniture into place. It also has a few sounds that only add to the charm of the toy. At £38.00 its not cheap but I think it is value for money given the quality of the toy, the amount it gets played with and how long it will last. If your stuck for a present for a little girl under 5 then this is the toy to get!! Thumbs up from Mummyjojo!
